Do you have the secret ingredient it takes to win the pageant?

To some it seems like a big secret.   Have you said or heard someone in the crowd say, "That girl won the pageant! She couldn’t hardly ride a horse much less model."

Do you ever wonder why a certain girl wins?

She didn’t ace the speech competition or any other category for that fact, so what was it that stood out?

ATTITUDE IS KEY!

The key ingredient that will make or break you from winning. It’s the one ingredient that is a must to win, even if your average in the competition. A bubbly, outgoing, positive attitude, will be contagious. You need to portray a happy and joyous image throughout the pageant, even if you have a downfall, like forget your speech.

I have seen girls who would fake it and plaster on a smile as they walked through the door. The smile is not natural and the judges can usually tell.

A List of Do's and Don'ts to Practice

What to do: What Not to do:
  • Engage in conversation with others

  • Relax before going into your interview (take 10 deep breaths to calm yourself).

  • Be on time or arrive early for pageant activities.

  • Be yourself

  • Listen to people and then talk

  • Be interested in other peoples welfare.

  • Judges and chaperones are people to so treat them like you would want to be treated.

  • Treat the pageant director as your a friend they.

  • Take the initiative to stand out.

  • Be first to thank sponsors at restaurants, etc…

  • Shake the judges hand and introduce yourself.

  • Sit in the arena bleachers and learn what to do and not to do by watching the other contestants.

  • Not engage in conversation with others.

  • Be totally quiet at the dinner table.

  • Pace the floor before going into your interview.

  • Be tardy for pageant activities.

  • Act like your better than everyone else.

  • Talk too much.

  • Not be interested in other peoples welfare.

  • Be intimidated by judges and chaperones.

  • Not treat the pageant director as your best friend.

  • Not take initiative to stand out.

  • Not be first to thank sponsors at restaurants, etc…

  • Not shake judges hand or introduce yourself.

  • Whip your horse outside the arena.

  • Sit in the arena bleachers being bored.

As you can see from the list above, attitude is not just observed or practiced in the competition room. Silent Judges could be watching you saddle your horse at the trailer, or walking through the Hotel lobby while your complaining to your mother.

Always, always, always, keep smiling.

If you get upset or need to vent, do it behind closed doors. Don’t ever show your bad attitude in public.  Just observe some of the past and current national title holders. Marjon Brady, Miss Rodeo USA, gleamed during her modeling as she merrily skipped across the stage, barefooted.  Her enthusiasm, outgoing personality, and natural friendliness to everyone, helped her to win the title.

If your possess this kind of attitude throughout the pageant, you will be successful.

REMEMBER A SMILE IS CONTAGIOUS!
