Its that time of the year again. Pageant committees are deciding on who will take on the task of putting
together their pageant.
Do you have what it takes to put together a pageant?
Not everyone can do it. It's a lot of hard work, and with our busy lifestyles you need to have a desire and "want to" to succeed.
Having a pageant committee is the best way to go, unless it is a roundup club contest.
A rule of thumb is that the larger the pageant, the more people you will want to help.
When preparing for your upcoming pageant, below is a list of what needs to be done:
· Get sponsors - which bring prizes or cash for your pageant
and
contestants
· Create a list of potential contestants to mail entries to.
· Make flyers to promote your pageant so that contestants know to
apply to compete.
· Attend other pageants or local rodeos and distribute your flyers
or
mail your flyers to prospective contestants.
· Prepare the following:
- Your Pageant Rules
- The horsemanship pattern
- The Pageant Schedule
- Announcer information
· Arrange for locations to hold Orientation, Fashion Show, and
Horsemanship events
· Find lodging for the contestants and their horses
· Book restaurants for all meals
· Decide on what prizes are needed for each category
· Coordinate fashion show
- Have the contestants
write up a brief description of their outfit
- Arrange for an announcer
to read those descriptions
· Type up sponsorship thank you list and hand out this list at
orientation so that the contestants can send thank you cards
to them
· Make sure you have chaperones lined up before the pageant
begins
· Delegate tasks to pageant committee members so that your
pageant will run smoothly.
· Contact potential judges
· Coordinate the pageant schedule with your judges
· Plan orientation so that all the rules are covered with both the
contestants and their parents.
· Order the new queens saddle, crown, banner, and trophies for
other winners
· Arrange transportation for girls and chaperones to all events
To have a "top notch" pageant that contestants will tell others about, plan months ahead to be well coordinated.
Girls will talk. If your pageant is chaotic, unorganized, the director is yelling since she is stressed out,
then it will show to everyone. A pageant is suppose to be fun. By doing correct preparation it can be.
Watch for my next article that will be more in depth on pageant preparation on a time schedule.
Until then, happy trails and good luck!
