So you don't need any training! You’re the best of the best.  You are winning all the pageants. If that’s what you are saying, then I ask you, "Have you made it to the top?"

"Are you winning every pageant that you enter? Have you won Miss Rodeo U.S.A. or Miss Rodeo America?" If so, then I would agree that you have been successful.  Otherwise, there is still room for improvement.

Some queen clinic trainers get offended if the girl attends other trainers clinics.  Some trainers may even believe they can teach you everything you need to know.  Yes, there may be some duplication in training material since trainers want to teach the most updated information in their clinics. However, the more clinics you can attend, the better. You will pick up different techniques that will be useful to you.

One bit of advice I can share with you about choosing a clinic, find out the clinics agenda.  Make sure it pertains to your needs and wants?  Many clinics don't provide horsemanship training and if that is an area you need help with, then find a clinic that provides it!

Are you getting ready for a state competition or nationals? A regular queen clinic would be good, however if you can only go to one clinic, make sure it offers an advanced class that has specialized training for the association you will compete in (ex: Miss Rodeo USA training).  Try to select a clinic that is knowledgeable about the major associations.  General clinics will focus on one association or  will be very basic with no association information.  Partners in Performance, Inc. queen camp offers both IPRA and PRCA training.

You always win horsemanship since your dad bought you a $20,000 reiner that performs perfect.

Do you truly know horsemanship?

If you were asked to ride a strange horse, like they do at nationals, would you be ready?

Would you know the correct techniques to make that horse perform?

Are you as knowledgeable as a veterinarian and know how to explain horse diseases?

What about modeling and speech? I haven’t met a girl yet that couldn’t use a little help in these areas.  Modeling is constantly changing along with the fashions.  Speech is an ongoing unknown too.  What topic will you speak about?  Some pageants will give you a topic, but you need to be prepared for the  pageants that don't.  Are you prepared?

True winners are the girls who want the scoresheets to read the critiques and learn from them, attend clinics, and get help to better themselves.  If you truly want to succeed and make it to the top, then ask for help.  Even if you are good, there is always an area of weakness that can be improved.  That area is what we humans want to avoid, when in reality, that is what needs to be focused on. So the next time, you see a queen clinic, take advantage of it.   Learn all you can and remember all judges score differently.  If there is something you learned at a clinic and you know the judges want you to do it differently, then do so. The clinics are each trainers own personal advice and knowledge from an overall perspective. They aren't the queen rules carved in stone!  Take bits and pieces you learn and apply it to yourself.

Happy Trails.
