INTERVIEW
PREPARATION |

You can never be too prepared! I have judged numerous contestants who were polished contenders. At least I thought they would ace the interview competition upon seeing them. To my surprise, they werent as polished as I expected. Sure they looked like a million dollars and could answer about any impromptu question they were asked, but they didnt know their facts. I recently judged a PRCA pageant. The winner of that pageant was eligible to compete for Miss Rodeo Oklahoma this year. The contestants knowing this should have been prepared for any PRCA question given them. However, they werent. Most of them did not know last years PRCA world champions or this years current standings. To my amazement they didnt even know what the percentages were that they were being judged on. Needless to say, I had alot of comments to write for those contestants who did not know! You don't go into a job interview unaware of the qualifications they are looking for or the skills you must have to do the job you are applying for. So prepare yourself as if this were the job you really wanted. The following is a list of information you need to know or questions you may be asked:
Where can you find this information? Call the home office of the association you need information about. Subscribe to association magazines. They are a vital source for updated rodeo standings and association current events. If you have a chance to get a rodeo program before your interview competition study it. Its normally full of directors names, announcers name, clowns, etc... Watch your local and national television for the current events. "CNN" is a good source. If you don't have time to watch T.V., then pick up a newspaper, such as "USA TODAY" and read it. Remember, knowledge is power. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will be in your interview.
