Many girls have written me for advice and tips for competition. So for those of you who cannot attend the queen clinics or may have a contest coming up within the next week  I decided to publish them here. It is especially hard for the Canadian girls to attend the camp being so far away.  Thanks to today's technology, I was able to E-mail some pageant tips to some Canadian Pageant Contestants.   I gave as much advice as possible without writing another book to a girl from Canada.  A few weeks later, she won the pageant, “her first pageant”.     I’m not saying that she won the pageant due to the advice I gave her however, what little bit of advice I did give her may have given her that winning edge.

Competition is usually so close that all it takes is a few things that you can do  to stand out amongst a crowd of contestants will help you win the competition.  Nothing pleases me more than to help girls win their first pageant. Below are a few tips on the do’s and don'ts of competition:

DO’S

DON’TS

1. Dress monochromatic for
    horsemanship
1. Don't let the reins touch the ground
   when dismounting.
2. Check equipment before
    mounting
2. Don't touch the back of the saddle.
3. Keep feet together at a
    modeling stance
3. Don't grip your hands during any
    speech.
4. Use voice volume in your speech 4. Don't complain.

For more competition tips, order my book, “Secrets of Pageantry.” Good luck to everyone and always use the judges critiques as a learning tool.   Scoresheets and comments will be your best teacher and will help you  to excel. Winners are the girls who listen and want to better themselves.
Good luck in your competitions!
