A day in the life of Miss Rodeo America

by Michael Johnston

It was a crisp, windy, cool dawn as I departed my hotel to attend my first “International Western/English & Accessories Apparel Market” now in it’s 80th year.  Slipping into my olive colored blazer, I quickly started the engine to get warm, the outside temperature gauge was reading 26 degrees and the ice conditions warning lamp was illuminated.

Not being very familiar with the Denver area, I spotted two police officers parked beside each other in the parking lot next to my hotel and I drove over and they helped me with directions to this western and English extravaganza.

This is the day that Miss Rodeo America 2002, Kara Brown, from Athens, Texas meets all of the major sponsors of the Miss Rodeo America Association.  She will pick out from their wares what she likes the most and feels the best in, i.e. boots, jewelry, pajamas, hats, etc.

We met Kara, Raeana Wadhams, Business Manager of the MRA, and Deb Dilly at the Expo entrance, after obtaining all of the necessary credentials to enter the show.  Contact WESA at 451 E. 58th Avenue, Box 27, Denver, CO 80216 for information about next year’s show. You can also call them toll free at 800-295-1041.

Kara attended this once in a life time shopping spree wearing a embroidered denim Wrangler jacket with a classic white blouse, dark colored Wrangler jeans, polished Justin boots, and her white Resistol hat held the coveted Miss Rodeo America crown.
