In October of 2000, Valarie Hurst, the founder and President of Pink Lasso began extensive research to develop a skincare and cosmetic line for Rodeo Women. Understanding the skincare needs of women of Rodeo began to take form as we realized the active lifestyles these women portrayed, the amount of exposure to the sun and other harmful elements, as well as the extensive travel involved in your role. We also recognize the importance of appearance in representing the Rodeo and how your wardrobe plays a part, so we wanted to offer a wide range of color cosmetics to compliment you. Pink Lasso fully supports the sport of Rodeo, it's mission and values. The founder and President of the company is a Licensed Esthetician through the Texas Cosmetology Board and a Professional Makeup Artist as well as having several certifications in skincare and Makeup Application. Some of those certifications include: Effectively Treating Acne, Facials and Body Treatments, Ingredient Formulations, and Makeup Techniques.  A former cosmetic consultant for  other cosmetic lines has also given me the opportunity to listen to consumers needs and what they would like to achieve in skincare and cosmetics. I also have the pleasure of being a local representative of The Makeup Institute, which is a Makeup Artistry school based in San Diego, California that educates on many aspects of makeup, such as: Photography Makeup, Airbrush Makeup, Advanced Makeup Techniques, Bridal Makeup, Film, and Television, and Hair Styling for the Makeup Artist, to name a few. Pink Lasso's mission is to educate customers on the importance of skincare, complimenting color selection and makeup application. Though there is a wide area to cover on these topics, one must understand, that we all have individual beauty and it comes from within first.

I can only imagine the amount of exposure you ladies must have! From special appearances to fashion shows all the way to preparing for the big day of being crowned. I’m not sure how many of you have had the opportunity of having your own Makeup Artist for your events, but I can tell you it is a good investment.  I work with several photographers to help models develop their portfolios for potential bookings with agencies. It really takes a creative team of talented individuals to create some beautiful photos. (Photographer, Fashion Stylist and Makeup Artist) I am particular about which photographers I work with. I have to see their work before I decide to accept an assignment with them. The photographer usually likes to see the Makeup Artist’s portfolio as well and will sometimes test with that artist before deciding to use that person for future jobs. This information can serve as useful for you before you choose a photographer, makeup artist or fashion stylist for your next photo shoot. Request to see their portfolios before you make a decision. Compare portfolios and look for details.  After all, you are paying for the services and you have to be happy with them. After you have viewed portfolios, keep in mind that the people you hired to assist with your photo shoot probably have a lot of experience and know what to look for especially when dealing with photography makeup and different lighting. It is best to refrain from excessive talking while the Makeup Artist is applying your makeup. She has to make sure you are looking your absolute best and is making sure your makeup is precise!

Now, lets talk about different types of makeup application. You have High Fashion Makeup, Fashion Makeup, Beauty Makeup and Glamour Makeup to name a few. In observing the wardrobe and setting for rodeo queen contestants, the two types of makeup that would apply to you and be most suitable would be Beauty Makeup and Glamour Makeup. Beauty Makeup can be more subtle and would work well for your interviews. Glamour makeup would work well for the arena and stage. Glamour makeup is more enhanced and creates more of a “sexy and dramatic look”. Utilizing techniques to create a “cat eye shape” is often appealing complimented by nicely arched and defined brows. I plan to write an article in the near future on some of the different ways to apply cosmetics. For now, let’s concentrate on making sure you are happy with your photos.  The following list of information is a form that I send my models at least a week prior to the photo shoot. I have also provided a link at the bottom of this article to my on-line portfolio, where you can view some of my work.  he different ways to apply cosmetics.
