The Miss Rodeo America Pageant Coronation was
held in the Orleans Showroom. After describing the spirits of the contestants and relating the importance of the Miss Rodeo America in relation to the sport of professional rodeo, Bob Tallman introduced special guest "Billy Crystal", which was Rodeo Announcer Tim Fuller with a black wig. This raised a good laugh from the audience. Tim began the program, which is themed "50 years of Stars on Rodeo Drive", that started with a act that included a news reporter interviewing past rodeo queens, then going onto a song by 9 year old Olivia Harns, which she wrote, and accompanied by her mother Joanie playing the guitar. The program was grouped in decade periods using overhead screens that showed short clips of films of the period. In each set, former queens of that period in attendance were introduced and some included television skits such as a "I love Lucy " rendition. Prior to the contestant introductions, Master of Ceremonies Tim Fuller introduced Miss Rodeo America sponsor representatives and the gentlemen that will be the stage escorts for the evening., who included Stran Smith, WNFR Tie Down Roper and Trevor Brezile, WNFR Tie Down & Team Roping Contestant. The pageant contestants entered in on a raised stage then crossed the structure and descended down an illuminated stair case onto the stage below and forward to in front of the audience where they introduced themselves briefly. Tamara Clause, Miss Rodeo Arizona, did enlist the assistance of Tim at her first appearance at the microphone due to the loss of her voice earlier in the day. The ladies were presented in mass on the stage, the envelope is presented for the top ten contestants. First to be announced was Miss Rodeo New Mexico, Candra Allison. Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch was announced second and thirdly Miss Rodeo Rodeo Wyoming, Amy Jo Hubbard. Following was Miss Rodeo Texas, Tanya Harvey; Miss Rodeo Idaho, Allyson Swan; Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Jessica Melvin; Miss Rodeo Oregon, Melissa Forester; Miss Rodeo California, Candice Carper; Miss Rodeo Arizona, Tamara Clause. Lastly, after a great hesitation by Tim Fuller was Miss Rodeo Utah, Kaydee Nelson. Before clearing the stage with the top ten contestants standing, the remaining contestants were encouraged with words by Tim as "Today is the first day of the rest of your life" and "You have a problem, build a bridge and get over it". The 'top ten' had a moment answer a relaxing question "What is your best childhood memory" before announcing the final five contestants. Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Jessica Melvin was announced first, then Miss Rodeo Arizona, Tamara Clause and followed by Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch. Fourth to be announced was Miss Rodeo Idaho, Allyson Swan, and after a great pause Miss Rodeo Texas, Tanya Harvey was announced. These top five contestants departed to be sequestered for the final judging. A single question each ask of the contestants will be used to to determine Miss Rodeo America and her court. When returned individually, the contestants were asked:" The Miss Rodeo America Pageant began with a vision to the dedication of the talented woman and generous sponsors, the program has truly experienced a remarkable journey. What to you think will be required to maintain this momentum as we begin our second fifty years?" These final five contestants departed to join the group where they reappeared on stage where Darci Roberston gave a moving congratulations to all the ladies and described her own moment when she was crowned Miss Rodeo America. As Tim Fuller described the categories, he revealed, firstly the Photogenic winner was Miss Rodeo Idaho, Allyson Swan, then the Speech award as going to Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch. Congeniality was announced as Miss Rodeo Pennsylvania, Heather Clark, then Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch received the Appearance award. The Personality award was then announced as Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch and finally the Horsemanship was given to Miss Rodeo Idaho, Allyson Swan. The Western Regional Scholarship award went to Miss Rodeo Utah, Kaydee Nelson, the Central Regional Scholarship award as going to Miss Rodeo Nebraska, Lindy Quaney, and the Eastern Regional Scholarship award to Miss Rodeo Mississippi, Lacie Stockstill. The Raeana Wadhams Spirit award was given to Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Jessica Melvin. Fourth Runner-up was announced as Miss Rodeo Texas, Tanya Harvey and Third Runner-up as being Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Jessica Melvin. Second Runner-up was then announced as being Miss Rodeo Arizona, Tamara Clause. Miss Rodeo Idaho, Allyson Swan was then announced as Second Runner-up, and finally, though it was hardly heard through the knowing cheerful audience, Miss Rodeo Nevada, Selena Ulch is the new Miss Rodeo America. Moments later, the new Miss Rodeo America Selena Ulch was ushered to a press conference, while parents and other left for the awards presentation upstairs in a conference hall. |
